Changing New Jersey's Primary Date

Moving New Jersey's presidential primary date up to the first Tuesday in February will have a positive impact for New Jersey and also provide benefits for the nation-at-large.

The earlier date will give New Jerseyans more of a say in who is going to be nominated.

The nation also will benefit from a change in New Jersey’s primary date because of demographic similarities between the state and the nation.

An early New Jersey primary will allow a state that is very heterogeneous in population and better reflects the complexities of modern America to play a more significant role in selecting a new national leader.

The State Senate today approved legislation that would switch New Jersey's presidential primary date from the last Tuesday in February to the first Tuesday after the first Monday of that month.
